‘Hiding in Plain Sight: Diabetes and driver safety’

Type 2 diabetes is a known national health crisis – it’s also a road safety crisis. Our recent report shows that people who drive for a living are twice as likely to develop diabetes. A survey of RHA members estimates as many as 2 in 5 employees (40%) in road transport have diabetes. One in four people with diabetes are undiagnosed. There are known and foreseeable risks when diabetes is not effectively managed, such as lack of sensation in feet leading to pedal errors, and these can have a significant impact on road safety. The webinar will discuss what diabetes is, the size of the problem, the risks and how we can start to mitigate these to ensure everyone can manage their diabetes safely, improve health and make our roads safer.
