Professor Clare Anderson BSc (hons), PhD, FHEA
will be discussing
‘An Evidence-Based Approach to the Investigation of Suspected Fall-Asleep Crashes’
Driver fatigue is responsible for a significant number of motor vehicle crashes in the UK and globally. Understanding the causal role of fatigue in motor vehicle crashes can be challenging as these crashes are often complex with multiple factors.
This webinar will explore an evidence-based approach for establishing a potential role for fatigue in motor vehicle crashes. This will include prior sleep-wake timing, sleep-related driver behaviours, signs of insufficient sleep and medical history. The evidence behind whether drivers are aware of sleepiness prior to a motor vehicle crash will be discussed. Finally, future approaches for the objective detection of fall asleep crashes will be presented.
